Honors Education for Social Change: Election 2016, Professor Znosko & Professor Cox, Fall 2016
This class was my first honors class that wasn’t for a general education goal or for my major requirements, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew that the class was going to involve discussions about politics–one thing that I usually refrain from talking about–so I was a little less than excited. I took this class during the fall semester when Longwood hosted the Vice Presidential Debate of 2016, an event I was lucky enough to be able to attend. This was also the first year that I could vote, so I wanted to be as informed as possible, and this class was very helpful for this. I learned so much more about politics and about the candidates that were running in the general election, and I felt much more confident voting because of what I learned in this class. One assignment we hadĀ involved the 2016 candidates (2 major parties and 1 minor party of choice) and their platform positions on a chosen issue. I chose to talk about Republican Donald Trump, Democrat Hillary Clinton, and Libertarian Gary Johnson, and their position on the issue of abortion.
