Honors American Literature, Dr. Van Ness, Fall 2016
Going into this class, I was expecting it to be similar to the DE English class I took in high school, as it was the only college level English class I had ever taken. DE English, the equivalent to English 150 at Longwood, was focused on writing and composition, while English 203 was focused on literature. At the beginning of this course, I felt like I was sitting in a history class rather than an English class. We had very few assignments that were graded, and most of the class consisted of reading different stories in the textbook. We only had to write three papers (not including essays on tests) throughout the entire semester, whereas in DE English we wrote ten. One of these papers had to be at least 8 pages on a single poem. At first, I had no idea how I was going to write such a long paper on such a short poem, but it was easier than I had expected. I included this paper in my nursing portfolio, and I have attached it below.
