Internship
I completed my internship during the Spring 2020 semester at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville working alongside a registered nurse on their telemetry/intermediate care unit caring for patients with cardiac and neurological conditions. This was a truly incredible experience that has helped me grow as a future health care professional and I am so thankful to Longwood’s Nursing Program for securing my placement at this facility on this unit and allowing me to complete my clinical hours in the hospital setting despite the COVID-19 pandemic. I will be starting my career as a registered nurse on this unit in June 2020; therefore, this experience has greatly prepared me for my job starting this summer. I learned so much from my preceptor from clinical skills to prioritization and so much more. I was able to practice my nursing skills, some of which I had never done before, and become more comfortable in the hospital environment communicating with a variety of people. Overall, I feel much more confident and comfortable entering the workforce as a registered nurse this summer after the experience that I gained during my internship.
