Artifact: Shared Legacy assignment (.docx)

ART 362 (Modern Art) is a course to teach the history of modern art, covering art movements such as German expressionism and analytic and synthetic cubism. The time period the course covered was mainly the 20th century. The purpose of this artifact was to go to the LCVA and choose a piece of art to study. I chose to study “The Farm of Henry Windle” by Henry Dousa (1875) from the perspective of a 20th century academic art critic. I learned how to study an art piece and connect it to various art movements’ characteristics, and speak from the perspective of an artist from the Academy. This would require knowledge of various art movements, as well as of the ideals of the Academy. This could help in future jobs by allowing me to dissect a piece of art and see its smaller details to figure out their meanings and purpose, and maybe even to judge what art movement it could be a part of.
