Community

Community is a pillar that is focused on my social relations with the groups and activities available on campus, and this pillar is meaningful to me because the sense of welcoming and friendliness about the students and faculty is just another thing to make me more motivated towards my success. When I was first coming into Longwood, I was extremely afraid that I wouldn’t be able to find anyone that shared my interests or that I could talk to freely. I was afraid that I was going to feel like Longwood was some sort of prison, unable to find anyone to connect to, but it turned out to be a second home. I made some friends that are also in the Cormier Honors College that are in my major, Graphic and Animation Design. Once I befriended them and some other freshmen in my program, I began to gain more confidence in myself and open up to others, and now I try to bring positivity to other communities that I encounter and perhaps will be a part of. I participated in some of the music program at Longwood, and I became a bass drummer for Lancer Stampede, helping bring energy and excitement to basketball games. At the end of the spring semester, I applied for and was voted into the layout staff position for the Rotunda, the university’s newspaper. Joining these organizations and meeting all of these amazing people helps ease me during stressful times, and I feel like Longwood is my family.
