Artifact 2: Die Welle Alternate Ending Script (.pdf)

GERM 202 is a course in intermediate German. A majority of the course was spoken in German, but was spoken in English if the information was important to be interpreted correctly. It was highly encouraged for the students to also speak in German. Over the course of the semester, students watched German films on their own time to be discussed in class through various speaking and grammar exercises. At the end of the semester, we were assigned to create a script for an alternate ending to one of the films we had watched. We chose to create an ending for “Die Welle”, which starts at Rainer’s final speech and goes into a celebratory party to promote the well-being of die Welle. The first artifact link is to the YouTube video that was edited by myself and then shown to the class at the end of the Fall 2017 semester. The second artifact link is a PDF of the shared Google Doc with all the group’s team members and what their lines and roles are. In doing this assignment, I explored my creative side while applying what vocabulary and grammar I learned during the semester and what I had learned in high school. While we had certain requirements for what tenses we needed to write in and needed to reach a quota with how many sentences were in that particular tense, we were pretty much free to do anything that we wanted that was relevant to the film we chose. In applying these skills, I’ve expanded my knowledge on a language other than English, which I could use when applying for jobs or in assisting others who may need rough translations. Fluency in another language definitely opens up many career opportunities, and I’m glad I pursued German. I will likely take German again in a future semester to brush up on skills and refresh my vocabulary, so that I can keep applying it in my day-to-day life.
