Artifact: FYRE (First Year Reading Experience) Essay (.pdf)
My LSEM 100 experience was centered around the graphic and animation design program. We learned the ins and outs of navigating the Longwood website and campus, as well as the graphic design program and the different paths we can take within the program. A part of our LSEM experience was reading a book called “Every Day” in which an entity named A travels from body to body every 24 hours, but falls in love with a girl. The purpose of this assignment was to compare the issues addressed in the book “Every Day” with the goals of becoming a Citizen Leader of Longwood. This essay was written during the Fall 2017 semester by myself. When writing this assignment, I learned how to connect a piece of literature the issues it addresses to how I may succeed as a citizen leader of Longwood University. Most writing assignments make students write about the key issues in a book and maybe explain how they are important, but this assignment connects it directly to my future and how I can learn from this book, not just a broad audience. To assess a piece of literature and apply it to myself and take it apart to be able to draw a lesson from it is important, and I can use this whenever I read a piece of writing to see if I can learn from it.
