Artifact: Book Review of “The Origins of Satan” (.pdf)
HIST 100 was a course in the foundations of western civilization. The purpose of this assignment was to write book review for a book that is chosen from a provided list and to interpret the author’s argument and analyze their evidence. To do this, we had to read the book, determine the argument, and, using what we learned about the topics relevant to the book, conclude whether or not the author made a good argument and supported it with solid evidence. This book review was written by me at the end of the Spring 2018 semester. In doing this assignment I learned how to analyze a piece of literature and then use what I learned to determine whether the author brings up good points or not. I could use this when analyzing pieces from magazine articles to scholarly journals I find on the Greenwood Database. I would like to be able to apply this within the graphic design field, although I don’t think many graphic design books would be trying to argue for a certain point like many historians are trying to do. However, I could try to figure whether or not their advice and writings bring truth or opinion to the table, and determine whether or not it is trustworthy evidence as to why I should or should not follow certain design principles and elements.
