Human Growth and Development:

My beloved Education 245 class!

I think I can say that this was one of my all time favorite classes I have taken at Longwood thus far. This class had nine students and it was always a great time. Our professor, Ms. Webber, always had a smile on her face and consistently made the material interesting. We learned about the different developmental stages that one will see in children. This class had a heavy load of psychology in it which I throughly enjoyed especially since that is my minor. Since our class was so small each of us, the students, taught two different chapters in the book. Not only was this to help get our foot in the door with teaching something, but also because once you teach something you automatically know it that much better. I could not say enough positive things about this class and I could go on and on about what I learned and how I am going to use once I go out into the work field. One of the projects that we were to complete was to pick either a social issue or something that you, as the student, wanted to bring light to. My end goal is to someday obtain a license as a Child Life Specialist and work in a hospital, however this is a very new field and many have never heard of this career path. In my opinion a Child Life Specialist is a pivotal part of a child’s understanding and acceptance of their illness. I believe that this career path should be more widely known, therefore that is why I choose that topic to do for this project. Attached is a brochure that I made to highlight some of the key things a Child Life Specialist does.
