Sociology of Education

Summer 2020

Sociology of Education was a course that enhanced my knowledge in the dilemmas the education system faces demographically among people of different races, ethnicities, working class, and economics. This class consisted of reading various current articles about inequalities among schools. In addition, we learned how COVID-19 affected schools, such as finding the resources for children to still receive an education and day-to-day functioning. Schools had to think about students who did not have access to technology or food. These schools worked together to be able to give students what they needed in order to remain in school virtually. This class taught me a lot about our education in America in how some schools are more at an advantage than others. Below is a reflection I wrote for an assignment that was assigned. My goal after taking this class would be to continue learning about the education system through recent articles and the news. This is helpful information to know as a resident in Virginia. This class should be taken by all students to further understand how the education system works.
