A community is a tight-knit group of people that support each other through academics, sports, or life. These could be the people that see each other on a daily or weekly basis. Often, a community has a similarity that brings them together. For example, the honors community is different from the nursing community. When I hear community, I immediately think of the words support, encourage, and inspire. I believe that is important to give back to the communities that I participate in.
The honors community is unique at Longwood because it is a smaller group of like-minded students who highly value academics. I enjoy being a part of this community because there is always a face I recognize on campus or in my classes. This group of students often check in with each other and offer encouragement for academics. In fact, I found my best friends through living in Wheeler Hall, the honors dorm.
Students of the nursing major also become a community through study groups and clinicals. I look forward to gaining friends within the nursing program as I prepare to begin clincals!
