English 203: American Literature

The Honors portion of this class was the opportunity to attend field trips, so that we can experience our literature in the real world. We traveled to the Jamestown colony and Werowocomoco. Werowocomoco was breathtaking and it is amazing that people were able to uncover this land and discover that this was the home of Powhatan’s village. That land is historic and privately owned by the people that live on the property.

We also visited different plantations. They differed in that one is privately owned and the other is owned by a foundation. Stratford Hall is foundation owned and is somewhat plain jane compared to Mount Airy, which is privately owned. Mount Airy was beautiful and certain parts of the house are redone to accommodate guests. It was beautiful and I hope to go back there someday. In that same day, we traveled to Menokin which is falling in on itself. This is the example of what happens when no one takes care of properties.

This class offered me the ability to travel to places that I would never travel to on my own. This class was great and I hope to travel to more places I have never been to or even heard of before.

I really appreciated this class because it educated us on different viewpoints.  In life it is important to make decisions that lead to the best possible outcomes and in order to make these decisions then we must look at all the possibilities and the outcomes that coincide with them. In nursing this is vital. We have learned that ABCs are key meaning that when we assess a patient we need to look at the most important problem and fix that first before another issue that isn’t as important. ABCs are airway, breathing, and circulation because breathing is important and comes before an ankle injury. This class helped me realize that I need to look at all the different options and chose one that is going to benefit everyone.

The essay below is about the backstory behind a story that is well known to almost everyone that knows about the founding of the new world. It analyzes the story, ” The Indian Princess,” and looks at the real message the author was aiming to tell.
