Goal 11

Physical Education 101: Fitness Concepts

I took this class in my second semester at Longwood University. This class is a requirement for completing a goal. I truly felt this class was fun and a good way to destress at school; however, I knew a lot of the information discussed in the class. PHED 101 motivated me to work out and help myself be the healthiest person that I can become. I am trying to implement many of these strategies in my daily life because I want to be a healthy person inside and out. Also, I need to be a healthy person if I want to educate my patients about a healthy lifestyle.

One of the many topics discussed in this class was mindless eating. This idea really resonated with me because in my opinion this is a huge contributor to obesity in our country. Mindless eating to me is not realizing how much one is consuming while performing another task. For example, I am a huge sucker for snacking while watching television and because of this I don’t realize how much I actually eat. I need to cut this back because it is a huge contributor to eating more calories than I need to be eating.

This class was really good about explaining healthy eating and what not to do. It was focused on being a healthy individual. I have really tried to take the words on this class and implement it into my life. Health is really important especially with being a nurse. Nursing is taxing and can take a toll on one’s health. I need to make sure that I am eating correctly and that I am using correct body movements when caring for patients. I need to raise the bed as opposed to bending over. This class really teaches the importance of exercising and eating healthy. I plan to do this for the rest of my life.

This paper is about my personal ideas after taking this class. I looked at my life and the ways I could be healthier and what I wanted my future health to look like. This assignment allowed me to reflect on my experiences and lessons I learned during this class.
