Art 100: Art Appreciation

I decided to take Art 100 over the summer through the local community college in my area. I was able to complete the school work on my own schedule while enjoying my summer break. I learned all about the different styles of art like romantic, realistic, and gothic. I went into the class thinking it would be a bore and came out with a better appreciation for the arts. One project we completed was going to the local art museums in DC. We could chose whichever we wanted. I chose to visit the National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum because I really wanted to look at paintings. There are many exhibits there with many famous portraits like the presidents and many famous musicians. This class really opened my eyes to the different stylistic approaches as well as the emotions exerted in a painting.

This class was a great experience and allowed me the opportunity to look the different outlooks people had  on the world around them. They chose to paint the opinion they saw of the people that were famous or just ordinary everyday people. Everyone has a  different point of view for example the different paintings of the same president were painted by different artists and they all focused or painted that president in the light that they viewed them in. Everybody has a different point of view on life and different events in general and we cannot expect everyone to agree with our opinions. This class showed me that art is very opinion based and changes from person to person. We have to know that it is okay to have a different opinion about things because thats what makes us each different and unique. However, we have to respect each others opinions, so that we are willing to express these opinions.

The paper below states my experience that I had while visiting the museum. I looked at numerous paintings and decided on a few that I really appreciated. I took the skills of directing and understanding paintings that I learned during this class and wrote a paper about these different works.
