Math 171: Statistics
I learned a lot during this class because I had never taken a statistics class before. I have always been really good at math and the material comes very easily for me. I was really worried about this class because usually when your good at algebra then your not very good at the statistic side of math. However, I worked really hard during this class to understand the material and I would think about how this will help me in the future for nursing.
This class helped me discover that there is more to the world than qualitative data and that quantitative data can be vitally important in making decisions. The statistical data on information is vital in nursing because it can help determine the best health outcome. Evidenced based practice is the best possible practice measures that are used in the field due to research and the best patient outcomes. Nursing uses this measure for every practice in the field and it completes research experiments to determine these measures. Statistical data is critical in this regard and it is important to know about this because of implementing and understanding the data in the future for practice measures. I really learned a lot during this class and it will help me in the future when performing research and learning and promoting better health outcomes for my patients.
This past semester I took Sociology of the Older Adult and we conducted a research project about exercise and successful aging. I used the skills I had acquired from statistics like averaging and organizing the data into graphs and charts. My background in statistics helped me understand the data and look at in different groupings and provide key insights into my findings.
I hope to apply these skills again to my research class that I will be taking in the summer going into my senior year.
This project was the one completed during the class and it was a group assignment. We looked at the length of people’s thumbs and pinkies to determine if people have relatively the same size of each. We measured people’s fingers to determine their variables. This paper is the start of the project and we looked at the obstacles that we will need to overcome in order for our data to be accurate.
