English 203: American Literature Honors
This class was focused on Virginia literature and about the history of Virginia during major events in United States history. We read books about slavery and the struggle for whites with the idea of losing power over minorities. It reminded me of elementary school when we learned about Virginia history. This class was like a refresher course and it took me back to Mrs. Turner’s class in the fourth grade and traveling to Jamestown colony as well as participating in colonial day.
We took field trips that related our books to the history that still remains in Virginia. This made the class even more interesting than other classes because we were able to take what we learned in the classroom and experience it in the real world. I hope to take a class like this again in the future.
Throughout this course we read books about the colonial history of Virginia and I learned more about the stories from others point of views. In grade school we focused more on the written history whereas in this class we read the point of views of the bystanders, and the indians who were there.
I really appreciated this point of view because it allowed us as readers and outsiders to look back and view all the different points of views possible. In life it is important to make decisions that lead to the best possible outcomes and in order to make these decisions then we must look at all the possibilities and the outcomes that coincide with them. In nursing this is vital. We have learned that ABCs are key meaning that when we assess a patient we need to look at the most important problem and fix that first before another issue that isn’t as important. ABCs are airway, breathing, and circulation because breathing is important and comes before an ankle injury. This class helped me realize that I need to look at all the different options and chose one that is going to benefit everyone.
The essay below is about the backstory behind a story that is well known to almost everyone that knows about the founding of the new world. It analyzes the story, ” The Indian Princess,” and looks at the real message the author was aiming to tell.
