English 150: Writing and Research
During my first semester at Longwood University, I took English 150 Writing and Research. Throughout the semester, I was writing a research paper. I had to choose something that I found interesting. I chose to explore my future career of nursing and how nurses view the career as well as the problems that need to be resolved within the profession in order to have higher retention rates. I loved writing this paper because it gave me the opportunity to learn a lot more about the nursing field. I was given opportunity to interview current nurses and learn about their perspective on the field and what they would like changed.
The nursing profession is not known for having great diversity within it and there are huge measures being taken to improve the diversity within the profession. By expanding the cultures of nurses, allows patients to feel more comfortable when visiting a doctor or going to a hospital. Also, it causes the profession to grow because it gives future nurses people to look up to as well as the ability to learn from someone that they can relate to with the same values.
Not only did I learn more about my future career, but also I learned more about my writing skills. I tend to forget possessive apostrophes and overtime this error has reduced because my professor made me aware of the problem. Also, she refreshed us on our grammar skills because a majority of the students in my class would make the same mistakes.
In the end, I learned a lot more in this English class than I have in an English class in a longtime. I was able to relearn a lot of the same concepts that I had learned previously. For example, logical fallacies and organizing a paper properly.
The paper below is my research paper I wrote throughout this class. It helped me learn more about the career I have chosen to pursue and the struggles that people have in this field.
