Professional Correspondence

I wrote a persuasive letter to convince the owner of a hotel chain to purchase gym equipment for their hotels. I utilized the AIDA format, meaning I focused on first grabbing attention, then interest, desire, and action. This format was very helpful in organizing my letter. I started off with some statistics about the fast-growing health and wellness industry to fixate the attention of the reader. Already drawn in, the reader becomes interested in what this letter is asking them to consider. I inform the reader that they can capture a portion of this market within their hotel chain; this creates desire, for profit and to improve the customer experience. I close with an action – I prompt the reader to consider my offer based on the reasons that I provided. I learned a lot about the professional writing process while creating this essay.

I had to inform the employees of an insurance company that casual Fridays would soon be coming to an end in the office. I provided reasons to justify and I incentivized the decision through the potential for bigger bonuses for employees. I needed the language to be clear and concise to make sure there was no confusion. This was a different experience for me; I’ve never had to write like this before but the skills I learned will be useful in the future.
