History 126

This class was great. I was disappointed that it had to be online, but that’s just the way things turned out. This was the first fully asynchronous class that I took and it was a strange experience not even interacting with the teacher outside of pre-recorded videos posted on Canvas. Despite this, the class material was engaging and covered a wide swath of history. The books that we read were fantastic; Silence by Shusaka Endo and Weep Not, Child by Ngugi Wa Thiongo. The struggles that these people faced are incredible and it placed what I considered the hardship of online classes into context. The first paper that we wrote was on IDPs, internationally displaced persons, and how we would respond in a similar situation. I thought this idea was very thought-provoking and I think that the short paper I wrote went beyond the prompt to discuss some important issues in our own country.
