Formal Report

The Formal Report assignment for this course was one of the final, major assignments for this class. Compared to the other assignments covered in this course, the Formal Report required extensive revisions and edits that were submitted for review to our professor in order to ensure our group was both following the assignment guidelines while also making adequate progress. Due to the work and length requirements of this assignment, equally dividing work and collaborating with fellow group members presented itself as a vital component of successfully completing this assignment. Of specific note, considering these various elements, this assignment allowed me to gain an expanded view on the intricacies of group projects and communication among individuals seeking to accomplish a shared directive. Furthermore, this specific project also allowed me to have the valuable opportunity of being exposed to the specific design and formatting rules commonly encountered within formal reports. In encountering the specific elements of this document and, as we will soon discuss, addressing the course outcomes, I personally felt that this assignment encapsulated virtually every major subject and topic covered within this course in a holistic and beneficial manner.

Pivoting to relating my experiences in addressing the Formal Report assignment to the course outcomes, it would be important to state that a notably high amount of course outcomes were encountered while working on this project. Firstly, our group addressed Course Outcome 1 due to the fact that we not only had to analyze a writing genre before producing a related document but also construct a specific rhetorical situation in which we had to base our report on as well as consider its associated audiences. Additionally, referencing Course Outcome 2, our group had to stringently adhere to plain English principles in order to create a coherent, concise, correct, and complete document. Research was a topic that allowed our group to address Course Outcome 3 as we all had to navigate to external sources to retrieve vital items ranging from royalty-free images and logo-construction websites all the way to university websites used in our hypothetical situation. Course Outcomes 4 and 5 were formally addressed as this document required all participants and group members to consider design principles and practice formal oral presentation skills in the construction and presentation of this report. As referenced previously, this specific group project allowed me to further refine and develop my skills as a group leader participating in collaborative projects as well as address Course Outcome 6.
