Conclusion

Collectively, the material within this ePortfolio reflects the diverse range of topics and subjects presented by Dr. Guler within her ENGL 470 Professional Writing Skills course. As discussed previously, this course allowed me to engage in a number of unique as well as valuable projects involving topics such as résumés, professional correspondences, brochures, press releases, formal presentations, and formal reports. In addressing these assignments and scoring sufficiently on them, a great success I attribute to Dr. Guler’s outstanding instruction and input, I was able to attain a heightened understanding of the unique complexities relating to these course projects. Of important note, I was also very pleased to address a topic, formal professional writing, that I had been earnestly wanting to cover for a considerable time. More specifically, I was delighted about engaging in this course as it operated as an unparalleled opportunity to become exposed as well as accustomed to many of the attributes, rules, and subjects found within the realm of professional writing.

In terms of how these items will relate to my future career, engaging in ENGL 470 has provided me with a plethora of benefits that have and will continue to benefit me as I progress through my professional career. Firstly, it is important to note that this course has already played a significant role in assisting me as I begin my initial career as a professional. Specifically, I was able to utilize the Résumé assignment from this course to construct a formalized document detailing my skills and experiences that I could include in my graduate school applications. Considering the Professional Correspondences and Press Release assignments, these projects served as a critical outlet for gaining experience in professional communication both within as well as outside of professional businesses and institutions. As speech-language pathologists often represent formal businesses and institutions, I feel that these specific assignments will undoubtedly have a positive impact on my future by permitting me to operate successfully within the various professional environments I may encounter. Finally, the Professional Report as well as the Formal Presentation assignments presented themselves as some of the most pivotal and rewarding projects for me covered in this class. Specifically, the field of speech-language pathology often relies heavily on the construction of report documents as well as collaborative efforts among professionals. Additionally, this field places a high importance on being able to professionally present information in an organized and articulate manner as speech-language pathologist are often required to present information to the caregivers of their client, insurance companies, bosses, and even organizations at the state and national level.

Consequently, I feel that these projects have allowed me to better understand what important elements should be addressed and encountered within professional report documents, group projects, and professional presentations. My experiences in the previously listed assignments will serve as a critical foundation on which I will be able to later reference and build future knowledge. As a result, I am forever thankful for the highly relevant and essential material presented through this great course and the superb instruction of Dr. Guler.
