I chose this to be one of my three professional development areas because this job has helped shape who I am as a person and will be as an employee. I was very thankful to have received a job as an intern in the Office of Internal Audit that began in August 2020.

I worked their for the entire school year, with the Spring semester counting as my internship through Longwood University. It helped me confirm that accounting is what I like to do and would like to continue for my career. I have found many new strengths and weaknesses within myself that I otherwise might have not found out for years.

One of the largest takeaways from this internship was how to interact with others and how to use Excel. Excel is an accountants best friend, and I learned many new skills and ways to make my work more efficient. I am forever grateful that I was able to have this opportunity to grow my career and my professional life.
