I joined the Professional Business Fraternity called Delta Sigma Pi during my first semester at Longwood University. This fraternity is not only a group of people but it is a very close-knit family of students.
I wanted to be involved on campus from the beginning and when some of the students in the fraternity came to speak in front of my class, I knew it was the right choice. This organization has helped me gain business knowledge, networking opportunities, and some of my closest friends in only one short year.
Now since I am a part of this fraternity, I have friends in each of my classes so I know I am not alone. Also, I have many professors that I can go to for help whenever I need it, whether I am making a resume or just needing college advice. We have hosted many professionals to come and speak to us about jobs, internships, and general tips to succeed in the business school.
My favorite professional event we put on this past year was the career cafe where several people from companies in the business world came to talk to us about job opportunities. I was able to make connections in the accounting side of the business platform and gain contacts for internships and possibly a job in the future. Joining this fraternity has been the best decision that I made during my freshman year and I am very glad for the connections and friends I have made in this short time period.
