Human Growth and Development
This class was one of the requirements for nursing. I took a lot of interest in this course because of its psychological focus. We learned about different psychological theories and how they apply to the development of individuals and their families. This will be very helpful to me in understanding the familial backgrounds of my patients and why a patient might act a certain way according to their age or upbringing. I have always taken interest in psychology, so this class made me eager to apply it to my future career. It was also useful in reflecting on myself and my background, and how many factors such as race, gender, class, and parenting style affects the person that I have grown up to be.
We applied the information we learned throughout the course to our Three Ages Project, in which we interviewed three different age groups to analyze developmental patterns and gauge if the person was on track with developmental expectations. I interviewed a sister and brother that I babysit as well as a friend here at Longwood. My findings can be viewed in the below document.
