HONS 295-50

Street to Cell:

In this class, we learned about the complex topic of incarceration and the effects that this has on individuals and our society. We were also given the opportunity to explore this further by volunteering at the Piedmont Regional Jail. Our class would go visit some of the inmates every week and hear their stories. By the end of the semester I had created a relationship with many of the inmates that we met there. It really allowed me to see others in a new light, learning the importance of never judging a book by it’s cover.

For this class, we chose a specific research topic involving incarceration. I chose to focus on healthcare in prisons. For this, I researched legal, social, and public health regulations to understand why inmates are entitled to health care.
