Evolution:
In this class, we examined the principles of evolution and the patterns generated by evolutionary processes. This class taught me the importance of evolution by natural selection and how it is the unifying theme of biology. I really enjoyed the discussion basis of this course. Instead of a ton of focus on subject matter by having a lot of exams, we constructed presentation and research paper on the really important topics of this course. This allowed me to have a deeper understanding of evolutionary principles.
For the honors portion of this course, we decided to take the outreach project we completed in this class to the next level and actually present our project to elementary students. We wanted to teach young children about the importance of evolution so we created a lesson. This lesson included an elementary level introduction into evolution and an phylogenetic tree activity where the children filled in a tree.
