BIOL 360-01
Developmental Biology:
In this course, I learned the basics of genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms that direct the development of multicellular organisms. The topics that I learned in this class include; gametogenesis, fertilization, gastrulation, organogenesis, sex determination, developmental gene regulation, teratology, aging, and ethics. I really enjoyed learning about these interesting topics and through this I was able to gain a real understanding of early development of different organisms.
For this honors enhancement, I investigated the role of the Wnt signaling pathway during regeneration of caudal fins in the Zebrafish by inhibiting expression using two concentrations of Lithium Chloride (LiCl). Like humans, Zebrafish have endoskeleton boney structures that have a mesodermal origin, creating a powerful model for the study of mammalian limb regeneration. The experiment I conducted and my findings are demonstrated on the poster presentation that I made.
