Goal 9 – Diversity
Because I am a member of the Cormier Honors College at Longwood University, I was given the opportunity to study abroad, which took the place of this Diversity goal. Studying Abroad was one of my all-time favorite experiences in my time at Longwood. I spent 8 days abroad, and traveled to London, Normandy, and Paris. In going to both England and France, I was immersed in the culture of these countries and was able to really understand and respect them. This was a Communications class study abroad which focused on exploring trauma and recovery in post World War II London and France. Both countries are so rich with stories of struggle and survival following the trauma of World War II, it was extremely interesting to expand my knowledge of this as well as become fully immersed in it.
Studying abroad and experiencing a different culture or revisiting historical events from within is both exciting and challenging. This course allowed me to understand this intercultural experience and communicate the effect of these events on these countries in a variety of ways.
