Service

Out of the three pillars, service is the one that means the most to me.  Service, in its essence, is personally sacrificing your time and energy to make your community better than you left it.  With service, the individual puts everything aside in his or her life to selflessly give their all to those around them.  It is only through this constant strife and sacrifice that strong citizen leaders are formed.  This heavy commitment to service in turn becomes an inspiration.  From the casual observer to the recipients of their service, citizen leaders are also expected to influence and inspire.  They are less concerned with the attention and awards they may receive and more with leaving behind a legacy for others to follow.  As they move from community to community, or their work becomes to much for them alone, more citizen leaders are needed to fill the void they leave behind.  Thus, service is the key to driving the community forward, both through its impacts and the growth of future leaders.

I have personally made it my mission to serve in any capacity I can to make Longwood University and Prince Edward County a better place than when I arrived here in 2015.  From serving our incoming international students, to upholding our student conduct in Conduct Board, to working at our campus library, I try to give my all to improve our campus and make someone’s experience at Longwood enjoyable and worthwhile.  I have listed all of the ways in which I serve our community in the tabs below.  Each has a description of my experience and my following reflections on the impact.  If you ever have any questions about the ways in which I volunteer, or if you are looking for ways to get involved on campus, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the other Honors students.  Thank you!
