Goal 2- Freshman Writing
I finished my Freshman Writing class during my senior year in high school. My school had a Dual Enrollment program that was offered all year and available through Tidewater Community College. The first semester focused on creative writing while the second semester dealt with argument papers. I wrote a few creative stories before the class, but I found out that my work significantly improved. The professor provided excellent feedback and heavily emphasized the use of peer editing, which I found out was a very beneficial resource in college. We were also introduced to all kinds of classical literature, including Don Quixote, Gulliver’s Travels, Brave New World, and The Stranger. The professor also prepared us for college by expecting us to take notes on our readings and to participate and discuss in front of the class. This concept was pretty new to me, so at first I was pretty hesitant to speak out in class. But as the year dragged on, I realized that participation played a huge part in my grade, and over time I became one of the frequent participants. Overall, I learned how to improve my creative writing, construct and solidify my argument papers, and analyze my readings.
Here is my final paper for the class in which I describe various themes of human nature throughout some of the books we read.
