Community

Community is a pillar that has been kind to me throughout my days at Longwood University.  Not only is it the organizations and groups you service and care for, but also the people who influence.  Your community is the group who is going to lift you up when you are feeling down, the group who is going to celebrate with your achievements, and, perhaps most importantly, the group who shapes you into the individual you decide to be for the rest of your life.

The community to nurture a citizen leader must be a balanced one.  It is most certainly important to find a community that you enjoy spending time with and making fun memories with.  However, you also need a community that ensures you keep a steady head on your shoulders.  The community must also keep you accountable for your actions, ensure that you keep your priorities in life straight, and hold you to a life filled with service and dedication to those around you.

I am proud to say that I’ve found different aspects in the Longwood community that satisfy both requirements.  Groups like the Baptist Collegiate Ministry have granted me so many kind memories and essentially being my home away from home, while still holding me accountable to my personal faith.  On a similar vein, the brothers of Phi Mu Delta have become some of my best friends while upholding my firm belief in brotherhood, service, and democracy.  You can my reflections on these groups in the individual tabs below.  I hope you enjoy hearing about these groups as much as I have experienced them!
