Goal 10- Foreign Language
I was fortunate enough to place into Spanish 201, which is the minimum required for my Foreign Language goal. The class was a little difficult at first, considering I haven’t taken Spanish since my sophomore year of high school, but the professor gave us constant review and multiple homework assignments for reinforcement. One thing I really liked about the class is that we actually spoke Spanish in the class and formed conversations on the spot. I know it sounds silly, but at my high school all we did was memorize verbs and vocabulary. In this class, I was actually practicing the language by talking with other people. This was further advanced when we were assigned pen pals from El Salvador. We started off by writing a few letters, but at the end of the semester we had the opportunity to meet them face-to-face over Skype and practice with them. Spanish 201 wasn’t just another learn and recite class, but a class that had practical use for us.
Enclosed is one of the many letters I sent to my pen pal in El Salvador.
