Exercise Is Medicine
Freshman year, spring 2020:
This introduction to kinesiology truly was a great class, I have always loved being active. I ran cross country in high school and love to hike. Exercise is such a great release of stress, an opportunity for something to do, and a way to stay healthy. With that basis of knowledge, I was able to take this class and gain so much from it.
We learned about so many different things from disease, different types of influencers on a person’s physical activity, and even how exercise helps manage stress. This overview of how exercise can impact everyday life has led to being more aware of my physical activity. If I’ve been sitting down for a long time doing homework, I will take a break and walk around. While sometimes it seems like there is not enough time in the day to get everything you have to get done and the things you need to do in order to stay healthy and sane, being able to incorporate exercise within your routine is the key.
It is all about being creative and the willingness to step outside of your comfort zone in order to benefit yourself in the long run. This class has also helped me realize how important is it to not only care for your health but for others as well. Just for the fact that most would not even know where to start when it came to finding an enjoyable way to exercise.
Click here for my artifact for this class, an article review on the connection between reduced anxiety and exercise. I found this really interesting and very applicable to me especially as college is a very stressful time to succeed and do well. Little emphasis is put on time to actually be able to exercise and enjoy it.
