Reflection of Letter to Senior Self

As a senior, I now am ready to reflect on my letter to my senior self.

College seriously is the best years of your life. You get to live freely and learn recklessly while having a controlling amount of responsibility. I am so proud of myself and so is the rest of my family. I have gotten amazing grades in such a difficult major/minor. I have made such good memories with amazing friends and I have learned that surrounding myself with people that give an equal amount of consideration to a friendship is worthy of my valuable time. I am excited to take a gap year and learn more about myself and my future career. It is so strange because my career choice is such a hard path but I would not rather do anything else. I need a challenge in my life or I know I will be unfulfilled.

As for Scholarship, I hold my studies to be my top priority and I have discovered that learning is one of my favorite things ever. It seems crazy to say but the farther that I have gotten into my undergraduate career the more I have learned about the world. I learned from my mistakes and now I will take them in stride moving on to dental school.

As for Community, I have made such a great experience for myself at Longwood. I have met such amazing people that push me to be the best person I can be. This is because they believe in me, they believe in my passion. Saying hello to strangers and putting myself out there has proven to make the best of my time at Longwood. Through this, I was able to travel and see things I would have never normally seen. My family is not much of the travel type and it has always made me nervous. I got to go to do community service in Puerto Rico and Miami, backpacking in the Shenandoah Mountains and learning about the resource curse in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest.

As for Service, I have really prioritized this point through the clubs that I have involved myself with. Alternative break’s mission is to go travel and serve a community in order to truly understand its culture and history. SGA serves the entire student body and is always looking for ways to make the student experience better for everyone. Also, through my time shadowing, volunteering, and working at Dr. Marshalls I have offered time to help him and learn from him simultaneously. I have made a lifelong friend and I am forever grateful for that experience in Farmville.

For my goals, even though my plans have changed slightly. This path is what is right for me and my life. I am so happy to move forward with my future career in dentistry. I would not be here without my family. They have supported me so much in my goals, interests, and passions. I am in awe of how fast time went by. I feel like I was just moving in yesterday. I know I made the most of it and smiled along the way, that is what truly matters. (:

Good job,

Senior Davice
