Microbiology
Junior year, spring 2022:
I usually am not interested in the smaller molecular side of biology but this class was very interesting when comparing this subject to other biology courses that I have taken. It was especially interesting to have this background knowledge going into Immunology. This class consisted of a lecture and lab where we had lab experiments and lab quizzes and 3 exams. The exams had really weird wording and I struggled because I often second-guess myself especially if I cannot fully get a grasp on what the question is asking. So to get better scores on my tests I would write down the notes before class and then write down what he was saying in class. This helped me actually comprehend the information much more. I began to do better on the tests.
On the lab quizzes, you had to spell everything correctly. To conquer this an hour before lab I would go to the second-floor lounge and write down everything I would need to know for the test over and over again. This helped me gain memorization skills and the ability to recall facts quickly because we only had limited time to take the quizzes. Even though the class was ultimately a topic that I was not interested in and the labs were boring a repetitive. I still took away valuable knowledge about myself and what works for me to study.
I have attached my artifact here. This was my final presentation on a case study on two different types of bacteria, Bacillus anthracis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the illness they cause. I also expanded on symptoms, locality, and average hospital stays when infected with these bacteria.
