Public Speaking taught me how to overcome my fear of public speaking. Personally, I think public speaking should be a required class for all college kids. The class taught me many lessons about improving my communication skills, giving me a sense of accomplishment every time I finished a speech, enhanced my public speaking and helped me with other future classes I have to take that involve speaking in front of others. Throughout the course, I learned a variety of different types of speeches, the four I gave were, a narrative speech, personal and informative. The first speech I gave was my personal speech. For this speech, I spoke about my journey of becoming a D1 runner for Longwood. My second speech was about a narrative story on my trip to Hawaii. I explained the beauty of Hawaii and how it was the best place I have ever been to. My third speech was a persuasive speech on why college students should take more power naps. I had a powerpoint presentation on different benefits a powernap can give to students. For my last speech, it was an informative speech on the benefits of drinking coffee. After every speech, I had to do a reflection on what went well and what went wrong during my speech. I think this was a great way to gain improvement over the course of this class. Overall I think public speaking was a great class to start out my college career.
