Community

The Honors Retreat truly opened my eyes on the meaning of community, and so many more moments have shown the true Longwood community, and even the Farmville community, during this year.

Honors Retreat showed me the Honors community. I connected with my Honors mentor quickly, and I loved that she had two of us to share, as I gained a friend through Jess. I met new people that I could look out for in classes, share meals with, and chat with outside Wheeler while we were waiting for our task for that day.

Traditions showed me the Longwood community. Not only the excitement before our first CHI walk, people screaming when they found droppings, Color Wars, Late Night Breakfast, showed everyone coming together to honor what’s been at Longwood for record-breaking years.

Organizations showed me communities of spirit. Between the bond of the girls in my acapella group, the excitement me and my new sisters on Bid Day and Walk endured that warm January evening, the screaming and crying in the library I got to share with close friends and old members when I got my acceptance into Ambassadors, they all showed how getting involved creates many different communities at Longwood that we can all share and experience.

The town traditions showed the Farmville community. Walking down Main Street, getting a coffee or ice cream from Uptown, or even the annual Christmas tree lighting in Farmville showed community spirit, the acceptance of the local people as well as the college students, showed the bond that Longwood and Farmville share, as well as the bonds people create while in Farmville, regardless of situation or circumstance.
