MATH 310

Probability, Statistics, and Programming – Dr. Virginia Lewis

I had never taken any sort of probability or statistics class in high school or ever, so I was a little worried on how I’d do on it.

I was especially nervous after I got into the class and also realized we had to learn programming, since I did a computer science class in high school and struggled immensely in it.

I did really enjoy the class overall, and I did better than I thought I would in probability, statistics, and even programming.

We got to use a programming software for kids called Scratch, which was really cute and fun to work with. We were given some things to create in class, but even homework assignments with specific requirements of things we had learned to do during the class period.

Probability and statistics actually came to me easily, which I think was very helpful with our numeration systems class I had to take before I could take it. We were able to use different counters and tools used in elementary classrooms to deal with statistics and real life scenarios applicable to a classroom setting.

My artifact is a Scratch project we had to work on as a part of our first test, where we developed an interactive program with specific requirements to show about ourselves. It was one of the most complex programs we had to work on, especially work on it independently, but I really enjoyed getting to work on Scratch for the class and the programs and games we got to create.
