EDUC 245

This course introduces students to the physical, cognitive and social developments of children through their life. Students are taught to analyze the relationships between an individual and cultural perspectives. You also look into how bias and stereotypes connect to behaviors and personal beliefs.

For this class, I learned a lot on how different environments affect a students development either physically, cognitively or socially. I thought this class would be more about how to teach students, but it was more of learning why a child behaves the way they do and analyzing the different stages they go through in their life span. Every week we did a writing about a topic we learned during the week. Through the mini writings we were able to express that we understood the concepts behind each topic. Our teacher also had us do SAFMEDS which was a way to memorize the terms we had each week. I did not like these as I felt as they didn’t help me learn the content more I just memorized words and their definition.

My artifact is our final paper that we had to write about a topic we wanted to research and advocated for. I chose to research about does gender create differences in education. though this paper I was allowed to explain my understanding of the terms we learned through the class. I also included my advocacy piece that we presented that I talk about in the paper.
