ENGL 210 – Intro to Drama

This course introduced us to the basic analysis of texts that included a variety of broadway plays. We looked into how the author decided to write his characters and how it sets up the plot. We would discuss our opinions on the play and use text and background knowledge to defend our ideas.

When this class first started I wasn’t that into it because English has never been my strong suit. English is a class in which everything is left up to your interpretation. This makes it kinda hard when everything means 20 things at one time. There was also quite a bit of reading which I wasn’t use to because I hadn’t taken any English classes yet that required a book a week. Some of the books were actually interesting, some were very confusing, some I hated so much and hated reading. But through this class I was better equipped to analysis why a character was made the way they were. I was able to tell why their actions made sense for their character even if I didn’t agree with their decisions.

My artifact is my term paper I wrote. For our term paper we had to pick three character from three different plays. We then had to discuss how each character was similar and different in the ways they decide to conform or rebel agaisnt society expectations of a certain group. Examples were society expectations of mothers, children, women, men, and more. I discussed how three guys compared to the expectation of what a good father is.
