Book Club Week 8

During the course of reading Atomic Habits, the two concepts that will stick me are to “prime your environment” and “never miss twice.”

When James Clear talked about being an our own environment architect, it really resonated with me. We sometimes fall into bad habits because it is so easy to do it in the environment we create for ourselves. Not only our psychical environment but also the people we surround ourselves with. By making our environment a more easy way to access good habits we are more likely to follow through on doing them. If i surround myself with good students, I am bound to go to the library more and use my time productively rather than just be a couch potato and go out on weekends. I also think this advice can work for any other good habit that I may want to have in the future. For example, eating better, if I stock my pantry with healthier foods I will eat them just like how I would eat all the unhealthy food in my kitchen.

Another concept that stuck with me is never miss twice. We often get very unmotivated and make excuses once we miss twice. It is important to remember that to continue a good habit we actually have to do the good habit. I also think that our mindset needs to change in order to bounce back when we do happen to miss twice. Missing twice doesn’t me give up or start over, it just means start back where you left off!

I will use these concepts and many other learned throughout reading this book in my life. I have already implemented a few and the results have been great! Being consistent is the most important thing of it all, even when we don’t want to be consistent.
