Internship Goals

Evelin Salazar
Junior Internship Goals

During my internship, I want to:

  1. Understand the role and responsibilities of a recreation therapist in an adult day care setting.
  2. Assess pseudo-client by gathering relevant information from scenario-based records and assessments, provided by the internship mentor, to develop a therapeutic recreation plan based on their needs and abilities.
  3. Discuss with the internship mentor the results of pseudo-client’s assessment and explain my rationale behind choosing a specific program based on their needs and interests.
  4. Prepare to lead a program by learning about the strategies and facilitation techniques used within the adult day health care setting.
  5. Familiarize myself with redirecting strategies that staff use when they are addressing maladaptive behaviors.
  6. Learn ways to adapt and modify interventions for clients so they experience success in leisure activities provided.
  7. Share group intervention and experience reading Atomic Habits with adult day health care center staff.
  8. Familiarize myself with the different types of programs offered by speaking to different recreation therapists at the agency and reviewing their monthly calendars.
  9. Speak to a recreation therapist who works with more independent, higher functioning older adults to review the criteria necessary to recommend that an adult day health care placement is more appropriate.
  10. Interview staff and familiarize myself with the techniques and programs used to generate more advocacy for patient and families.
