Learning to Assess Community Needs and Develop Interventions
In order to learn about caring for multicultural populations and community-based nursing, I completed a community assessment and determined solutions to a problem in the community. I chose to assess the Charlottesville community, and determined that due to the COVID-19 pandemic many of their homeless shelters were having a hard time accommodating the amount of homeless individuals that were in the community. I then developed interventions that could be implemented to help care for the homeless population in this community and explained how the interventions should be evaluated. This project allowed me to use the nursing process in a large-scale community setting that I had not experienced before. This project also allowed me to develop skills in community nursing and leadership, which is often overlooked as an important branch of nursing.
