Whenever the nursing department is looking to hire new faculty, they allow them to present a lesson to current students to determine their teaching style. Students then rate the candidates and write down remarks on the candidate. This allows the department to involve students in the process of choosing who may one day teach them. As a student, I am honored to be able to give my opinion on prospective candidates and help the department choose the best fit for our community on campus. I have attended these presentations whenever able to. I think that this helps students feel like they belong in the nursing community at Longwood, and it allows them to evaluate candidates and choose the person they think will be best for the open positions.
