While on a study abroad trip to investigate the nurse’s role in global health, I had the privilege of visiting the Mater Misericordiae University in Dublin, Ireland. The Mater was founded by the Sisters of Mercy as a Catholic hospital and the first public hospital in Ireland. While visiting the hospital I gained insight into public healthcare in Ireland and how it compares to the United States. I also had the privilege of meeting some of the nurses and instructors from the university hospital. Through this experience I am better informed of the role of nurses and how they affect health all around the world.
