For this course, we learn the value of creating a professional scientific presentation in the STEM field. For our scientific presentation is choosing topics that are related to one STEM field (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, and Physics). The main idea for this seminar class was creating a scientific presentation from the topic research paper and combining with other sources that are related to the topic to form a scientific synthesis. At first, I was skeptical about the meaning of the word “synthesis” and how is it related when forming a scientific presentation. However, after seeing each of my Life STEM classmates presentation, I’m starting to understand the meaning of the word “synthesis” and why it’s an important part in the STEM field. We also give peer evaluations and feedback to each other for everyone scientific topic presentation. This is a major part for me because this gives me a very clear understanding of a professional scientific presentation with strength and weaknesses during my presentation which I can improve on my communication skills (Organization, Language, Delivery, Supporting Material, and Central Message). This course is very difficult but very beneficial and helpful for me to continue working my communication skills when presenting in front of the audience as a Physics and Engineer researcher.
