Bodies and Citizens (CTZN 110)

Dr. Dudley-Shotwell was one of the professors that I learned the most from and you could tell how passionate she was about the content she was teaching. I loved her teaching style and the topics we discussed. For the majority of this class, we would read a packet at home that talked about a specific issue in society relation to how a persons body defines them as a citizen. In class the next day, we would spend our time discussion what we read. At the end of each unit we would have a presentation where we picked a topic and talked about it for three minutes in front of the class. I loved how discussion based the class was and I was surprised how much I participated. I learned a lot about real world issues that are very prevalent today and her class opened my eyes up to issues that I didn’t realize still existed.

For our final exam, we were tasked with creating a syllabus for our own Bodies and Citizens class. We needed to find our own readings for our “students” to read for the discussions. Then, we created a three minute video of us introducing the class to the students on the “first day.” I attached the syllabus I created below.
