Children’s Literature (ENGL 380)

Children’s literature was one of my favorite classes that I have taken throughout college so far. It was extremely interesting and I was able to think about children books in a way I hadn’t before. The main take away I had from this class was the fact that we shouldn’t limit children to what they can read in order to preserve their innocence. Children already have a hard time finding interest in reading and I think its due to the fact that parents hide a lot of good books from them. Throughout the semester, we read a lot of popular children books and had class discussions about their effectiveness and if we would have that book in our classroom. I was able to think about books that I had read growing up in a way I hadn’t thought about before and I used new terms such as agency to describe characters and events in the books. Every few weeks, we would be assigned to write a paper on one of the books we had read and analyze it using the terms we were taught in class. The paper I have attached below is about the book The Witches by Roald Dahl.
