Quantitative or Scientific Perspectives

BIOL 364 – HON Perspectives in Toxicology, Dr. Shanle

For the quantitative or scientific perspectives course, I took Perspectives in Toxicology with Dr. Shanle. This class explored the intersections of science, history, and justice in the field of toxicology. It also introduced me to the concept of environmental justice, a way of examining the disproportionate impact of environmental toxins (often introduced by industrial development) on economically disadvantaged communities and people of color. Thus, the course provided yet another framework to understand environmental, social, and political forces that shape our understanding of the world and prompted reflection upon how issues of equity and access affect nearly every aspect of people’s lived experience.

Additionally, this class also provided opportunities to conduct research and craft presentations of findings, allowing me to further develop my research and communication skills. Here, I’ve included the poster for my risk assessment project from research day.
