Mus 224- Music Appreciation, Dr. Swanson

Honors Music Appreciation was one of the most challenging courses of my first semester because the subject matter was completely different from anything else I have studied. The class introduced me to the fundamental elements of music and how they can contribute to the overall mood and tone of a piece. Throughout the course, I was encouraged to relate music to other disciplines, including my major, communication sciences and disorders. During the semester, Dr. Swanson challenged us to view music, and art in general, through new analytical frameworks and examine its role in our culture. In doing so, we explored a variety of musical styles and attended performances both on and off campus. Overall, this course made me aware of the value of music and art in contemporary society. The artifact included here is a picture of a ticket to a performance of Il Postino, a spanish opera by Daniel Catán, that we attended as a class.
